PSAR Activity Ranking Report (Academic Year 2014-15)
Dear Reader,
This report represents the:
1. Branch wise total number of submitted PSAR reports
2. College ranking based on the performance of all students in PSAR activity.
3. Performance analysis of departments at all colleges in PSAR activity
4. Department wise performance ranking from various colleges for PSAR activity
Under the visionary leadership of Honb. Dr. Akshai K. Aggarwal, Vice chancellor, GTU Innovation Council (GIC) had started its mission for IP literacy since from September 2011. Under this journey GTU Innovation council had launched Patent Search and Analysis Report (PSAR) activity in September 2013 (In academic year 2013-14), with an objective to increase awareness regarding patents among students by making them familiarity with patent websites & patent documents. In this activity each student of 7th Semester B.E. was asked to study at least 5 patents related to his/her project and have to prepare Patent Search and Analysis Report (PSAR) via specially developed web portal by GTU.
During academic year 2013-14, via this activity more than 35000 students have studied more than 178,000 patents in a period of four months. Following the glorious progress of last year, in current academic year (2014-15) also a hard work of more than 42000 students and faculty from all GTU affiliated B.E. colleges across the state leads to generation of more than 185,000 PSAR reports. This ultimately leads to significant rise in IP literacy among our students and faculty.
GTU is further planning to develop proper review system of all such generated PSAR reports from all colleges. Where by GTU, in association with all faculty aiming to motivate all students for giving more innovative ideas for incremental innovations related to each of the studied patents. Through this system potential ideas will be extracted from all such PSAR reports, which can be further taken as an innovative projects by subsequent batch of students.
This report presents the detailed analysis of efforts made by students from various departments of all degree engineering colleges affiliated to Gujarat Technological University (GTU) in PSAR (Patent Search and Analysis Report) activity during academic year 2014-15. This report is made based on PSAR data collected as of 27th January 2015.
This report represents the:
1. Branch wise total number of submitted PSAR reports
2. College ranking based on the performance of all students in PSAR activity.
3. Performance analysis of departments at all colleges in PSAR activity
4. Department wise performance ranking from various colleges for PSAR activity
Note: All entries are based on the chronology order of college codes. In case of any college department, where are less than ten students registered for PSAR and other activities, no rank is assigned to such departments, instead * is mentioned.
For compilation of this report, team of GTU Innovation Council have taken enough measures to avoid any errors, even in case of any observed discrepancies we request you to shares your observations to Mr. Amit Patel, Assistant Professor (IPR/Patents) at: ipr_projectofficer@gtu.edu.in

IPR (Intellectual Property Right) activities at Gujarat Technological University (GTU)
Gujarat Technological University (GTU) is a state wide university
started since from 2007 at Gujarat, India. There are nearly 500 esteemed
engineering, pharmacy, and management colleges affiliated with GTU.
Under the visionary leadership of Honb. Dr. Akshai K.
Aggarwal, Vice chancellor, GTU Innovation Council (GIC) had started its mission
for IP literacy for faculty and students since from September 2011
throughvarious IPR activities. Till today GIC had organised more than forty
workshops for faculty and students, based on various themes viz. “Patenting in
Engineering”, “Patenting in Pharmaceuticals”, “Patent Search Methodology”, “Patent
Search and Analysis Report (PSAR)”, “Patent Clinic”, “Patent Drafting Exercise
(PDE)”, “PatenTrack”, “PCT Patent Journal Analysis Activity” etc. By all such
workshops and seminar at present GTU has a very large pool of nearly 4000 trained
faculty, who have been trained and made aware about the basics of IPR &
Patents in particular and also for the basics of patent search methodologies.
Due to these efforts, till today more than 250 Patents have been filed by students
and faculty of GTU affiliated colleges.
The various kinds of IPR activities being run at GTU are as follow:
1. Patenting in Engineering, Patenting in Pharmaceuticals and Patent Search Methodology2. Patent Search and Analysis Report (PSAR) generation activity3. Patent Drafting Exercise (PDE)4. Patent Clinic5. PatenTrack6. Post Graduate Diploma in IPR by GTU
GLANCE AT THE VARIOUS IPR ACTIVITIES BY GTU Innovation
Council:
Patenting in Engineering & Pharmaceuticals also
Patent Search Methodology:
These are the basic workshops which GIC
had organised since from beginning to make faculty and students from various
branches of technical education to make them familiar with the kind of IPR,
basics of patent and introduction to patent search techniques.
Patent Search and Analysis Report (PSAR)
This is the kind of activity launched
by GTU in September 2013, with an objective to increase awareness regarding
patents among students by making them familiarity with patent websites &
patent documents. In this activity each student of 7th Semester BE was asked to
study at least 5 patents related to his/her project and have to prepare Patent
Search and Analysis Report (PSAR) via specially developed web portal by GTU.
By this activity more than 35000
students have studied more than 1,78,000 patents in a period of four months.
Last year report about PSAR activity
published by Ahmedabad Mirror: GTU students scan 1.5L patents, help prevent replication
Patent Drafting Exercise (PDE)
In this activity all students of
final year BE, were asked to draft a provisional patent documents for their
project just by assuming that their project is Innovative & Patentable. All
students were taught about provisional patent filing procedure, steps &
fees and about required details for various patent filing forms (1, 2 & 3).
This activity was also carried out via specially developed web portal by GTU.
Due to PSAR and PDE activity the literacy
for IPR/Patents among all students and faculty was raised to a very significant
level.
Patent Clinic
It’s a unique initiative started by
GIC to provide all possible assistance to students and faculty members from any branch of science
or technology, to file patent for his/her innovative work or project. Patent Clinic is a two days’ workshop in which
GIC organises seminars and workshops on Basics of IPR/Patents, Patent Prior Art
Search Techniques and its importance, Patenting System in India and Hands on
exercises to draft patents.
The
whole value chain of patent search for novelty checking of any project is
carried out using free and paid patent databases. The access to paid databases
for students and faculty is provided as a courtesy by CII. Patent drafting is
covered during a span of two days along with practical sessions. The whole
program is absolutely free for students and faculty members of GTU. Till today nine
such sessions of such patent clinic were organised.
PatenTrack
To promote innovative culture among
students in a fun learning way, GIC had started series of PatenTrack
competition with an objective to make the patent search fun learning process
among students, to spread the awareness about importance of patents, to make
students aware about patent holdings of various giant innovative companies, to
develop a positive attitude of students for the patent search, to inspire
students for doing innovative projects and to develop a competitive mind-set
with presentation skills.
PatenTrack is
a two days competition, where in patent search by students will be carried out
for the assigned portfolio of innovative companies or the assigned
technologies. Later on the group discussion among participants on current IPR
topics & presentation of analysed patents by each group for the studied patents were made.
Post Graduate Diploma in IPR
Further, to increase the skilled human resource
that are not only technically sound but also having in-depth knowledge of IPR
and patents, GTU had launched a one year, off-campus programme on “Post
Graduate Diploma in IPR” from September 2014.
Thanks and Regards
